You are able to travel to Unije using either Car, Airplane, Train, Ferry, or a combination of them. All information on this page are without any warranty.

Car

For private travel to and in Croatia a valid drivers’ license, vehicle license and an international green insurance card is required.

Speed Limits:

  • in built-up areas 50 km/h
  • on country roads 80 km/h
  • on main roads 100 km/h
  • on motorways 130 km/h
  • Cars with caravan trailers 80 km/h
  • Busses and busses with light trailers 80 km/h

Route Description

Travel to Rijeka, from here two possibilities of travelling to Cres Island:

1.

  • from Rijeka via Opatija and Lovran to Prestova
  • by car ferry to Porosina
  • on the hill road for approx. 90 km to Mali Losinj

2.

  • from Rijeka over the bridge to Krk Island
  • follow signs to city of Krk to Valbiska turn-off
  • from Valbiska by car ferry to Cres Island
  • approx. 60 km to Mali Losinj (fantastic views)

Park your car at the large car park in Mali Losinj (supervised), from here take the ferry (departs twice a day) to Unije. No cars are allowed in Unije.

The islands of Brac and Losinj can only be reached by smaller aircraft. Unije has a small airstrip for sports planes (see http://istra.net/naa/unije.htm).

Train

Croatia has direct train connections with Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, France, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, as well as indirect connections to most other European countries.

We suggest you travel by train to Rijeka. From there either by bus to Mali Losinj and then by regular boat service or directly from Rijeka to Unije by catamaran (twice per week). See current time tables and prices.

Local ferry services connect the mainland with the following islands: Unije, Cres, Losinj, Rab, Pag, Ugljan, Pasman, Dugi otok, Iz, Solta, Brac, Hvar, Vis, Korcula, Lastovo, Mljet and the Peljesac Peninsula.Local boat and high-speed boat services connect other inhabited islands on which car travel is not possible.
